American Dad
on Fox
American Dad (Sunday, 7:30 p.m. ET/6:30
p.m. C/MT) continues to pollute the hour BEFORE the Family Hour on Sunday
nights. Parents, don’t be fooled by the colorful animation; this is not
something your children should be watching. Nevertheless, Fox continually airs
American Dad reruns at the time when the most children are likely to
watch. For re-broadcasting a ghastly murder scene, the American Dad
rerun that aired on August 30thhas been named Worst TV
Show of the Week.
In this episode, Stan and
his fellow spies hate the long hours of overtime their boss Bullock forces them
to work. They are certain that Bullock would lighten up if he started dating
again while his wife is being held captive in Fallujah, Iraq. So Stan coaxes
his wife, Francine, to arrange a blind date with Bullock, and her friend,
Melinda. The date goes surprisingly well. They make out passionately at the
dinner table in front of Stan and Francine, who states, "Oh Stan! Nothing turns
me on like watching a dear friend get worked over by an old man!"
Stan replies, "Well, you're
drunk enough. Francine and I are going to go have 'the maritals.' I just hope I
don't 'pre-marital' on the way home."
Eventually, Bullock takes
Melinda home with him. That’s when thing go terribly wrong.
Stan receives a frantic
phone call from Bullock, who tells him to come over immediately. When Stan
arrives at bullock’s home, he sees Melinda dead in the living room, dressed in
lingerie. Bullock’s flashback reveals that Melinda snuck up behind Bullock
while he was mixing her a drink. She tappeds him on the shoulder and he
instinctively threw her over his shoulder and broke her neck. Stan helps
Bullock bury the body, but when Francine starts to worry that Melinda is missing
Stan – at Bullock’s behest – deflects the blame away from his boss. Stan drugs
Francine. When she finally comes to, she finds a knife in her hand and
Melinda’s dead, decomposing body next to her with four more knives sticking out
of her chest. Convinced that she killed her friend, Francine attempts to cover
up the murder. Stan helps her by pulverizing Melinda’s carcass with a wood
chipper.
Apparently, Fox considers
gruesome violence against women to be family-friendly fare. Why else would they
broadcast reruns during the earliest programming block of a series that normally
airs at the latest timeslot?
For once again corrupting
Family Hour with extreme violence, American Dad rightly deserves the
title of Worst TV Show of the Week.
